Sigh of Relief
It has been quite some time since I posted and while there are several reasons behind that, one big one was a general feeling of malaise. I couldn’t seem to find anything I wanted to write about, nor could I focus on the positives - honestly, I was feeling a bit burned out. I was tired of the negativity, tired of the entitlement to ignore science, tired of the world, really. However, the last week, in particular, has lit a fire in so many of us and I wanted to start the new year off correctly by wishing you, gentle reader, a very Happy New Year!
Like many of you, I breathed an enormous sigh of relief on January 20th. I felt like this country forcibly exhaled a cloud of toxic smoke and began to look something like the country I loved. I am aware that there are still too many issues baked in on so many levels of our society and government - both local and federal - but it feels like once again we have a chance to improve! There is still a nagging fear regarding the millions who seemed to support inequity, systemic racism, misogyny, and ignorance with their vote but I hope the majority can help change that with education and kindness. It won’t be easy but change is often the most difficult and most rewarding accomplishment.
