A STEM Podcast

Hello, nerds!

I set out on a journey last year to create a way for nerds and would-be nerds to connect via my podcast. Now, I think it is time to take the next step and try my hands at blogging. Yikes!

My goal with this enterprise is to help people at any stage of their career hear about the opportunities, challenges, and passions other nerds have experienced. I enjoy helping people connect and network so this seemed like yet another avenue where I could hopefully bring some value. There are so many people on such different journeys having learned valuable lessons that I hope they can share with the rest of us.

But let’s back up for just a moment. Perhaps you are asking the question, “What does STEM mean?” STEM is an acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. Often times, you will also see STEAM which includes Arts in the acronym. I am not going to get into the STEM vs STEAM debate here as I think they both have merit.

Your next question might be, “What do you know about STEM?” As a chemist by schooling, a chemical engineer by daily tasks, and a baker and homebrewer in my free time, I would argue - quite a bit. Chemistry is involved in a great deal of my life - chances are, in yours as well. To be honest, we cannot survive without chemistry. One of my greatest pet peeves with marketing of products today is “chemical free”. What do you think air and water are?! Sigh.

But I have strayed off course of this intro post. I want to welcome you and encourage you to listen in on the podcast, check out the posts on this blog, and reach out with questions or if you wish to be on an episode for an interview. The more of us who share experiences, the more we can grow and strengthen together.

Cheers, Heather :)
